Come And See

Come And See

Copyright 2006.

This is a theoretical story of Nethanael underneath the fig tree. Those of you familiar with the story know that it is not explained to us WHY Jesus says that Nathanael is 'An Isrealite indeed, in whom there is no guile', but Nathanael seems to realize this indicates that Jesus knows him better than many, certainly better than a stranger should.
Then, when Jesus says that He saw him underneath the fig tree, Nathanael exclaims that He MUST be the Messiah.
This exchange has puzzled me for years. Jesus of course WAS the Messiah, but how could the admission of 'Seeing' Nathanael under the fig tree have made him believe?

I am not intending to add to scripture here, so don't take this story as the Gospel, it is NOT intended as such.
But it IS intended as a call to us to 'Come And See' what Jesus is doing.

Lyrics

Verse 1:
Nathanael, he sat underneath the fig tree
Praying in earnest, through many a tear
"If you are truly 'The Lord God who sees me',
Come and see the pain of Your servant here."

Chorus:
Come and See! Come and See what my master is doing
He lies to the people just to sell his own his wares
I just can't cheat the poor, so he's letting me go.
I will NOT tell a lie, it's not fair.
Oh, Lord, Come and see! Come and see!

Verse 2:
Phillip, he came where Nathanael was sitting
"Nathanael, come talk to this Carpenters son."
"Can anything good ever come out of Nazareth?"
"Nathanael, just come and see!"
"Nathanael, just come and see!"

Chorus:
Come and See! Come and see what the Master is doing!
He works in the street, giving legs to the lame.
The blind receive sight, and the deaf they can hear.
The gospel He tells to the least.
Come and see!

Verse 3:
Nathanael, he came to the Carpenter's Son
Who said "Here is a man who refuses to lie!"
Nathanael said, "How is it You seem to know me?"
Jesus said, "Underneath the tree, I saw you cry.
I heard your cry."

Chorus:
Come and see! Come and see what the Lord God is doing
He gives sight to the blind, He gives life to the dead!
Come and Follow Me now, though your heart may be weary
I will give to you rest for your soul.
Oh, Nathanael, Come and See!

Verse 4:
Though the years have flown by, the Word never changes
It calls to you now, Come and Follow the Son!
Though your heart may be dead, He can give you another!
To the sinner, His life evermore.
Come and See!

Chorus:
Come and see! Come and see what the Lord God is doing
For He works in the hearts of your daughters and sons!
Is your heart calling you to work in His vineyard
The harvest is ready, is the laborer YOU!?
Oh, friend, get up, Come, and See!
Come and See!
